Extremal dynamics on complex networks: analytic solutions.

The Bak-Sneppen model displaying punctuated equilibria in biological evolution is studied on random complex networks. By using the rate equation and the random walk approaches, we obtain the analytic solution of the fitness threshold xc to be 1/((k)f+1), where (k)f=(k2)/(k) (=(k)) in the quenched (annealed) updating case, where kn is the nth moment of the degree distribution. Thus, the threshol...

Extremal Properties of Complex Networks

We describe the structure of connected graphs with the minimum and maximum average distance, radius, diameter, betweenness centrality, efficiency and resistance distance, given their order and size. We find tight bounds on these graph qualities for any arbitrary number of nodes and edges and analytically derive the form and properties of such networks.

Wealth Dynamics on Complex Networks

We study a model of wealth dynamics [Bouchaud and Mézard 2000, Physica A 282, 536] which mimics transactions among economic agents. The outcomes of the model are shown to depend strongly on the topological properties of the underlying transaction network. The extreme cases of a fully connected and a fully disconnected network yield power-law and log-normal forms of the wealth distribution respe...

Simple Dynamics on Complex Networks

An analytical approach to network dynamics is used to show that when agents copy their state randomly the network arrives to a stationary status in which the distribution of states is independent of the degree. The effects of network topology on the process are characterized introducing a quantity called influence and studying its behavior for scale-free and random networks. We show that for th...
